Callaghan started writing songs in her early teens and had instant success with her first ever composition gaining her a place on primetime TV at the age of 15.

Callaghan continued to write and perform, moving from her home town in Lincolnshire to London at the age of eighteen. With her impressive piano and guitar skills, Callaghan has been performing with outstanding reviews both with a band and more recently as a solo artist.

I stumbled across Callaghan on that wonderful website Myspace (which thus far has cost me more in gig tickets and CD purchases than I would care to count!) and was instantly hooked on her voice. Having heard wonderful reviews from friends down south, I was delighted when I saw that she would be playing a short set at Mr Lynch in Newcastle, as part of their acoustic afternoon.

Switching effortlessly between guitar and keyboard, Callaghan accompanied herself on six songs. She immediately made an impression with one of the purest voices I have ever heard, as she combined a variety of musical styles with emotional lyrics, taking us on a journey and making us believe that she has lived every word she sang. We were treated to all of the songs on her current EP 'Nothing You Say;' my personal favourites being 'Get me Through the Night' and 'Meant to Be. I have no doubt that the latter will soon become one of the most played songs at weddings!

Callaghan also played 'Smile,' which showed a slightly different edge to her voice, and 'The First Cut is the Deepest,' prior to which she told us that she and her sister had recently met Rod Stewart and joked that she had given him some pointers on how to handle the song. This sense of humour came through throughout her set and judging from the number of EP's she sold, she won the audience over.

Callaghan has released two EPs, her latest EP "Nothing You Say" is available for download from ITunes or from her website music page. Her debut album is scheduled to be completed in 2008. I for one am looking forward to hearing this and to seeing a full length gig in the North East when she tours with it.

I have no doubt that Callaghan is going places and I would strongly advise that you go see her perform in a small, intimate venue, whilst you have the chance.
